Metal Sculpture

Optical stores seem to always have good window displays.
This one on the corner of Granville and Robson always has exceptional displays.
Today they have metal sculptures . And my guess is that they are made by local artist.

Photo of Cathedral place in Vancouver

clipped from travel.yahoo.com
Built in 1991, this cathedral stands on the foundations of the historic Georgia
Dental Medical Building. It is an award-winning 23-storey skyscraper developed
primarily for commercial purposes. The architects incorporated pieces of the
original building into the façade of the new structure. This distinct blend
gives the downtown tower a presence both historic and
contemporary. Several retail shops, services, and cafes dot the interior of the
building, and its adjacent courtyard is a popular relaxation spot. The Canadian
Craft Museum, located on the north end of the site, is a must-see.

Holy Week 2008

"Holy Week 2008"

Church Banners

Christ Church Cathedral on

Burrard Street and West Georgia Street.

The building with green roofs on the background is the Fairmont Hotel.

The copper roofs oxidized with the elements and turned green.

Why does copper turns green? (Read the explanation below.) v

Why Does Copper Turn Green?

Just as iron that is left unprotected in open air will corrode and form a
flaky orange-red outer layer, copper
that is exposed to the elements undergoes a series of chemical reactions that
give the shiny metal a pale green outer layer called a patina.

The patina actually protects the copper below the surface from further
corrosion, making it a good water-proofing material for roofs (which is why the
roofs of so many old
buildings
are bright green).

In fact, the weathering and oxidation of the Statue
of Liberty
's copper skin has amounted to just .005 of an inch over the last
century, according to the Copper Development Association.

Sidewalk Cafe

Quiet sidewalk cafe in Granville Island in False Creek area. It is still cold outside.
It will get very busy during summer because of tourists. On the background is the Granville bridge. It rained a bit today. Freshness is in the air.
Coffee business is big in Vancouver. And where there is sidewalk space they had extended their coffee tables on the sidewalk. Starbucks Coffee is very popular, so popular that some
big hotels chains have brought Starbucks into their properties to replace their own coffee shops. Also popular are Tim Horton's, Blenz, Second Cup, and Bean around the World.

"Love makes the world go round..."

This flock of birds was flying around, around and around in this same area
for more than ten times. After i took this picture they just flew away. i am delighted to find this picture in the camera, thought i missed it.
It must be low pressure in the atmosphere. With low pressure the birds enjoy flying.
This is downtown Granville Street and West Georgia.
